Great for sore Nipples

Meg at Babies R Us on 06/06/2010

These are great for those first few weeks at home when your nipples hurt when they are touched by anything! I got them from the hospital & wow, I don't know what I would have done without them.

I only used them for pain relief, so I don't know about engormement or inverted nipples (I didn't have either of those problems).

They do get messy if you use some kind of lanolin cream, but I really don't know what you would expect...creams & gels are messy period. You just have to rinse them out with hot water & hand soap several times a day which only takes maybe 30-60 seconds. (Just make sure you get all the soap out because sore nipples hate soap!)

They are funny shaped, but most women who have just had an infant aren't really running around too much (of course I only have 1 child so maybe I'm mistaken). If I went somewhere, I would either wear a t-shirt or or you can put them inside a padded bra & that worked for me.

Obviously, they aren't perfect, but I still gave them 5 stars because they are as good as it gets for SORE nipples (again-I didn't need them for engorgement or inverted nipples)

Good for short period use

I am exclusively pumping for my new baby boy, and just the thought of my next pumping session hurts. My nipples and areolas have become extremely tender from the pumping and from rubbing on my nursing bra/pad. I bought these after reading all the positive reviews.

They provide relief, but only for short periods of time. If I wear them for more than three hours, I end up leaking out as the foam cannot absorb the amount of leakage I put out. They are also quite noticeable under clothing.

I love to wear them around the house for temporary relief, but I wouldn't wear them out. They are also not able to be worn while sleeping as they leak all over. But all in all, they give my nipples a nice break for a few hours during the day.

I plan on buying a second set!!

I'm a first time mommy and nursing was very difficult in the beginning and hasn't really been much easier. Due to these shields, I have been able to stick with my commitment to nursing. These give your irritated nipples a much-needed break! No one can tell that I'm wearing them either!

I plan on getting a 2nd set so I can rotate them & properly clean the other set. I did stop using the foam milk absorbers as I was producing more milk than they could handle. I now cut the disposable pads in half and use them instead.

Definitely get these!

Much needed relief

I used these often when first nursing. I had a horrible time (lots of cracking and bleeding) and these provided much needed relief. I wore them almost every day for a few weeks (they don't stay in place when lying down, but did fine when I was up). Combined with gels from the hospital, these were well worth the money even though I used them for a relatively short time.

The only down side is that you have to be careful to get air circulating through. They did tend to retain some humidity which doesn't help nipples heal quickly.

Saved my life!

My Dr. recommended these after I developed an infection on one of my breasts. They keep your nipple from touching your clothes, helping keep them dry so they can heal (or prevent them from getting infected in the first place). Every other product I used layed directly on the skin which hurt me, although they seemed to help my friends. I highly recommend this product. It is worth the small investment, especially since you can use them over and over (they are not diposable).

LIFESAVER

I've never nursed before and if it weren't for these softshells healing me quickly I probably would have given up! I had cracked and bleeding nipples and in 2 days I was all better by using these guards along with the Lansinoh Lanolin. Even if you never need them, buy them just in case - you'll be glad you did.
They are even nice just to 'air out' your nipples once in awhile. Great product.

Saved Me!

The Medela nursing shells were a lifesaver for me. I had VERY sore nipples while nursing my son, for at least 6 weeks. These allowed me to continue breastfeeding and worked great and were a lot more comfortable than nursing pads that directly touched the nipple. I am buying another set for our second baby!

Great for first weeks of nursing

These helped so much when I first started nursing. I was very sore and these let your nipples heal. They also help bring your nipples out for an easier latch for the baby. Just don't wear them to bed without a nursing pad or you will be spilling milk all over!

Relief!

I bought these shells as well as the Avent shells. These are very comfortable and I prefer them over the Avent shells. They are less noticeable under my bra and the backing cushion is much more comfortable because of the larger openings.

These saved me and helped me continue breastfeeding. I was on the verge of quitting before I found these. My nipples were in bad shape and healed within hours of feeding my son.
